Larry Brockman<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we gather to celebrate James Michael Brockman\u2019s\nBaptism.&nbsp;&nbsp; And Baptism is a rite of\npassage, one in which a person is reborn by water and the Holy Spirit.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of us are first born into life in this world.&nbsp;&nbsp; And we would just belong to this world\nunless we somehow long for something more than that.&nbsp;&nbsp; That something more is everlasting life with\nour creator.&nbsp;&nbsp; But just how do we achieve\nthat- everlasting life with our creator?&nbsp;&nbsp;\nWell, it requires a rite of passage.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our Gospel, Nicodemus was confused by Jesus\u2019 comments\nthat one needed to be reborn of water and the spirit in order to enter the\nKingdom of God.&nbsp;&nbsp; Well, that is what\nBaptism does for the person.&nbsp;&nbsp; Baptism is\nthe rite of passage that opens up the way to everlasting life.&nbsp;&nbsp; When a person is Baptized, they are reborn\nby water and the spirit.&nbsp;&nbsp; The water\nwashes away their sin; even if it is just the human tendency to sin by our\nimperfect nature.&nbsp;&nbsp; We call that Original\nSin.&nbsp;&nbsp; And then they are reborn in\nSpirit, by receiving God\u2019s spirit.&nbsp;&nbsp; God\u2019s\nSpirit changes everything because it inspires a person to align themselves with\nGod\u2019s will for them.&nbsp;&nbsp; That\u2019s really the\nsecret- aligning our lives to God\u2019s will for us.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James Michael is too young for a conscious decision to do\nGod\u2019s will.&nbsp;&nbsp; But his parents and\nGodparents are here to make that decision for him by proxy, and then by living\na life that gives James a good example.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later on, James will be confirmed in his faith as a\nteenager.&nbsp;&nbsp; That is when he will confirm\nhis acceptance of the faith his parents chose for him today.&nbsp;&nbsp; And so, the Church welcomes James today, a\nnew soldier for Christ.&nbsp;&nbsp; Rejoice,\nbecause James is an heir to everlasting life in the Kingdom of God&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Baptism Homily for James Brockman Ezekiel 36: 24-28; John 3: 1-6 Dc.
